In the green of the Sabina
Positioned above an outcrop of rock, Toffia offers a feature, unique in Sabina. the church of Santa Maria Nova, situated evocatively at the highest point of the country is surrounded by houses built on the overhanging rock.
History tells of secular opposition in Toffia. Firstly between the powerful Abbey of Farfa and the Duchy of Spoleto, and later between the noble families of Colonna and Orsini. This has contributed to the flourishing of an old town, full of noble palaces and places of worship.
The climate is pleasant with a mild winter and refreshing breezes in summer. The climate of the hilltop town is dry and clean, offering plenty of greenery and panoramic views over the medieval village. The rich land produces excellent olives whose oil is the main agricultural resource of the area.
These features make Toffia a pleasant place to live or simply visit.
